In recent years, medications such as GLP-1 receptor agonists have brought important shifts to the field of obesity medicine. For many individuals, these treatments offer something they haven’t experienced in a long time: a quieting of appetite, fewer cravings, and a sense of physiological support that can feel both relieving and hopeful.
And yet, in my work as a weight management & emotional eating counselor here in Santa Barbara, I continue to see something that deserves our attention: Even when appetite is reduced, the relationship with food often remains unchanged.
